Agricultural profile

The Municipality of Razanj covers 14.798 ha of agricultural land, which represents 51% of the total area of the Municipality. The structure of agricultural land is characterized by a large share of arable land, which makes up 12.330,75 ha of agricultural land (83.32%). The rest of the agricultural area includes orchards and vineyards. Most cereals are grown (45.2%), followed by fodder plants (15.62%), vegetables (1.11%), while industrial plants are poorly represented (only 0.01%). Orchards and vineyards, despite favorable growing conditions, are poorly represented. There are orchards on only 289.8774 ha (2.35% of arable agricultural land). Vineyards cover 417.6308 ha (3.39% of arable agricultural land). Grass areas (pastures and meadows) cover 2,437,289 ha (16.50% of agricultural areas). The municipality has favorable conditions for livestock development. In the last few years, there has been a reduction in livestock.

Cattle breeding is the most important branch within animal husbandry. The number of cattle has been declining permanently in the last few years. However, progress in cattle breeding is reflected in the breeding of productive cattle, which is very important for the production of beef and milk. This indicates the transition from labor-intensive to production-intensive cattle breeding. In the following period, it is expected that the livestock will increase and its quality will improve. In the process of changing the racial composition of cattle, cooperatives that stimulate and accelerate this transformation on individual farms by purchasing quality offspring and artificial insemination of cows are of the greatest importance.

Considering that the municipality of Razanj includes the largest part of the rural population, in whose diet pork is the most represented, the importance of pig breeding is extremely great. Pork is produced faster, and in addition, canning of this meat by drying is done within family farms. Due to that, the consumption of pork is higher in the countryside than beef.

The municipality of Razanj includes a hilly and mountainous area extremely suitable for sheep breeding. The importance of sheep is not only because of the production of meat, but also because of the production of milk and wool. However, sheep production is at a very low level.

This production is characterized by balance in all parts of the municipality, because poultry farming is represented in all parts. Most farms in the production structure have poultry production. In this branch of animal husbandry, the production cycle is short. Labor costs can be significantly lower than in other livestock industries. The highest level of modern technology in animal husbandry has been achieved in poultry farming. The growth factor of poultry production is also the high demand for products provided by this branch of animal husbandry (meat, eggs).
